Assistance Dogs UK

In hospitality, great service means making everyone feel welcome - including assistance dog handlers. Under the Equality Act 2010, it’s a legal requirement to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people who rely on highly trained assistance dogs, but it’s also just good business. Assistance Dogs UK (ADUK) is he umbrella organisation representing charities that train and support around 6,000 working assistance dog partnerships and we want to help!

Far too often, disabled people are still refused entry to everyday places and services. It’s not just frustrating - it’s discriminatory. The situation is made worse by ongoing confusion among service providers, especially when untrained dogs or pets are misrepresented as assistance dogs. That’s why we’re on a mission to support businesses with clear policy guidance, staff training, and practical resources to help get it right.

We’ll be at the Restaurant and Takeaway Expo to talk with delegates about what the law says, how it applies to your business, and how to ensure your team feels confident welcoming guests who rely on assistance dogs. For support before, during or after the event, the ADUK website is packed with resources. Our Information Hub covers what you need to know: how to confidently welcome assistance dog handlers, what the law requires, and how to create an inclusive experience from the moment a customer arrives.

We also offer tailored policy reviews to help you embed best practice and training sessions designed around the real-life demands of hospitality settings - engaging, practical, and easy to implement.

You’ll find us on stand RTE108. Come say hello, meet some amazing assistance dog partnerships and hear first hand about the impact of a welcoming policy and welcoming staff, and get the tools you need to make your business more accessible, inclusive, and legally compliant. A few small changes can make a big difference.
