The World's Largest Underwater Restaurant Opens In Norway

Designed by Snøhetta, the restaurant "Under" offers to guests to admire the marine life through a 36 x 13-foot panoramic window in the dining room. It has three-foot thick walls and can host between 80 and 100 people.

The building will also function as a marine research centre thanks to its incredible underwater vantage points, facilitated by muted lighting that will be installed on the seabed. Unsuprisingly, the restaurant will serve up a wide variety of seafood, including cod, lobster, mussels and truffle kelp.

Such a ambitious architetuctural project wasn't without its challenges, with the construction having to endure high intensity water pressure. The senior architect at Snøhetta Rune Grasal told CNN that “To withstand all these forces, the building is slightly curved, so it can better take to the waves, and it's thick: 1.6 feet for the concrete and about 1 foot for the acrylic windows".
